the moon’s motions

The plane it raises, headed for the sky
And I’m thinking of distant oceans
Sailing through a different sky
I follow the moon’s motions
Time zones come and go
Become another place
The minute hand it moves so slow
As if I’m in outer space

And here I rest my weary head
Make a sunshine pillow for my bed
As the world passes by

The plane it raises, headed for the sky
And I’m thinking of distant oceans
Sailing through a different sky
I follow the moon’s motions
Time zones come and go
Become another place
The minute hand it moves so slow
As if I’m in outer space

And here I rest my weary head
Make a sunshine pillow for my bed
As the world passes by

You’ll land in another place
In a world that you can face
And you will leave here filled with grace
As the world passes by

The plane it raises, headed for the sky
And I’m thinking of distant oceans
Sailing through a different sky
I follow the moon’s motions

forsaking his wings

He was blessed and this time was the best
He took me in and gave me rest
And clouds move so slow with him
Like the weather don’t know how to begin
And he’ll walk here on the ground forsaking his wings
And he’ll walk here on the ground forsaking his wings

He was kind and this time was well spent
Every word was a word he meant
And the water seemed to know
That this time with him is slow
And he’ll walk here on the ground forsaking his wings
And he’ll walk here on the ground forsaking his wings

He was sweet and answered me when I prayed
Every word was a word I wanted to hear him say
With an honesty like no other
Like whispered words between lovers
And he’ll walk here on the ground forsaking his wings
And he’ll walk here on the ground forsaking his wings

He was love in all its wonderment and joy
I fell in love with that unlikely boy
Smile as quick as a love complete
The story of love oh so sweet
And he’ll walk here on the ground forsaking his wings
And he’ll walk here on the ground forsaking his wings

the bluest skies

Waking into spring
Feels like I’ve been asleep this whole year
What will it bring?
The start of something fresh and something dear?

Shaken from a dream
I rub my eyes to see the burning sun
Nothing’s like I’ve ever seen
The year has changed unexpectedly

Stirring from my sleep
Shake my dreams like blankets to the floor
Feel the air upon my feet
Like the morning, fresh and filled with hope

Rising from the deep
And lifting as the day begins
Pushing aside my dreams
That linger in my thoughts it seems

Breaking through the mist
The mist of clouded thoughts and fledgling dreams
Think of what I’ve missed
And all the things that passed by without me

Rousing from my bed
I know I’ve missed the cold dark seasons
I never saw the petals the flowers had shed
Or grey clouds laden from a season’s rain

The sun it pours like red wine through my window
Like a blessed balm upon my eyes
Washes away the dust of sleep
Helps me see again the bluest skies

sir john

The knight came on his glistening steed
Ridden hard through the summer seed
Crossed the land from sea to burning sea
From home to the Sea of Galilee
From where he came without me

You taught the world to hope
Travelled by horse back and by boat
Walked this world pole to pole
Placed light in every dark soul
And now the world sees you as its saviour

And now my nights are darker…

Sir John
Where have you gone?
Is this the road that you were on?
Where have you gone?
Sir John
Where have you gone?
Is this the path that you were on?
Where have you gone?

You brought peace and divinity
But in my bed you were not here for me
My lord, save the world for all
But don’t expect me, don’t expect me at your fall

How can I compete with your God?
How can I lay down with you, my lord?
When in your heart you know I’ll always be
Forever the temptress
Forever the temptation you see

And now my days grow shorter…

Sir John
Where have you gone?
Is this the road that you were on?
Where have you gone?
Sir John
Where have you gone?
Is this the path that you were on?
Where have you gone?

wine dark grave

I come to the day
And I wake to your voice calling
Calling me across the sea
You in a land where the sun falls like hammers
Beating the fight from your soul
I beg you come now
Come down to the water’s edge
Feel how the waves caress you
I cast myself into the sea
And I wait for you.

The tempest came
And took me down into the watery depths
My wine dark grave
The tempest came
It bent me and broke me beneath its waves
My wine dark sea
Grave

I heard your voice calling me to the water’s edge
Tempting me from dust so easily
Teasing me
I discarded my earthly bonds and followed your voice to the sea
I stand in the gentle surf
Feel the cool promise
On the horizon I hope to see you
Make your way back to me
Make your way into my arms

The tempest came
And took me down into the watery depths
My wine dark grave
The tempest came
It bent me and broke me beneath its waves
My wine dark sea
Grave

The tide takes me under its cold, cold embrace
As I sink into this darkening place
Where I saw your face vanish beneath the waves
Like a pale moon sinking at dawn
Here I rest now in this place deep below
Where I can still see the stars
And they still shine bright through the waters above

The tempest came
And took me down into the watery depths
My wine dark grave
The tempest came
It bent me and broke me beneath its waves
My wine dark sea
Grave

found by gravity

The sun was pavilioned by grey
As waiting for the new day
And by the orb of the moon’s glow
I was out there waiting to know

And I was found by gravity
And pulled back to the ground
And I know my only pity
Is I would never be found

Circled stars they guide me
Beyond the realms to see
I could find a future and past
Everywhere my gaze I did cast

And I was found by gravity
And pulled back to the ground
And I know my only pity
Is I will never be found

Beyond heaven’s reach
Beyond universes I breach
Stars plot a journey far
But I am beyond our evening star

And I was found by gravity
And pulled back to the ground
And I know my only pity
Is I will never be found

beyond the city’s reach

Whenever I turn I see a brick wall
And they all seem to stand so tall
The only green I’ve ever seen are in window boxes
The only green I’ve ever seen is a neon sign
I look around and never see a smile
Just blank faces walking an endless mile

A tree grows in a city somewhere
And I’m still searching
My heart knows it’s here somewhere
But I’ve yet to find it

Take me beyond the city’s reach
That’s where I need to go
Take me beyond the city’s reach
That’s where I need to grow
Out in the sunshine
And the hip high corn

I want to be beneath a big open sky
But around me all I can see is a fog of grey
There is something so oppressive about all this brick and glass
I want to find my way out
A path that will lead me to the city walls
Where the sun shines high above it all

A tree grows in a city somewhere
And I’m still searching
My heart knows it’s here somewhere
But I’ve yet to find it

Take me beyond the city’s reach
That’s where I need to go
Take me beyond the city’s reach
That’s where I need to grow
Out in the sunshine
And the hip high corn

impossible ways

I caught the bus in the rain, not knowing my destination,
Though all the roads I recognised none really seemed the same
And the route might have been going round in circles
But I just sat there, ticket in hand, while the miles disappeared

And sometimes I find
That our paths still cross in impossible ways,
And sometimes I find
There is but a space between a kiss between us

Well the bus it rolled along down the road stopping at different places,
With strange buildings, and strange street names,
And half way through the journey the city became the country
And the rain became sunshine

And sometimes I find
That our paths still cross in impossible ways,
And sometimes I find
There is but a space between a kiss between us

And these days it takes a lot to surprise,
These days it takes more to amaze me,
These days I get by
Just knowing you exist in this world

The bus route ended by an ocean, on a lonely beach,
And when it stopped I got off on my own,
And though my ticket was to a random destination
You were there, as if you had been waiting all along

And sometimes I find
That our paths still cross in impossible ways,
And sometimes I find
There is but a space between a kiss between us

And these days it takes a lot to surprise,
These days it takes more to amaze me,
And these days I get by
Just knowing you exist in this world

sleeping by the river

You had been sleeping by the river; there was water in your hair
The colour it was now black, where once it had been fair
You have changed so much that I don’t know you,
I don’t know you anymore

You had been playing in the forest; the green was in your eyes
The colour it was brilliant, but not enough to hide your lies
You have changed so much that I don’t know you,
I don’t know you anymore

You had been walking in the desert; there was sand upon your skin
The texture it was once smooth, but now you’re wearing thin
You have changed so much that I don’t know you,
I don’t know you anymore

You’d been running in the night with darkness in your heart
The colour it was now void and it tore us both apart
And now I really know you, I don’t want to know you,
I don’t want to know you; I don’t want to know you anymore

52 pick up

One wanted two and broke the heart of three
Four went to sea with five to be free
Six married seven and walked out the door
As eight and nine had a son that they couldn’t adore
Ten built a boat and prepared it for sea

And the king and the queen declared their affection
As Jack was left out in the garden without a connection

One beat two with a club to win the game
Three undermined four and five for the fame
Six and seven ganged up on eight
Meanwhile nine fell for the bait
Ten laid down his arms in shame

And the king took the queen by force to the wall
As Jack watched his true love take a fall

One, two and three took a spade to fill the hole
Left by four and five as they dug for coal
Six took seven to a funeral dressed sublime
Where they watched eight bury nine
Ten wept fishing the low tide shoal

And the king taught the queen about force of will
As Jack watched them all from the foot of the hill

One paid two and three with riches beyond compare
Four walked away from five with heart in despair
Six took seven to a place made of gold
Eight and nine made a pledge to never grow old
Ten spent his days living in care

And the king paid the queen for true love and hope
As the jack sailed away in a little sail boat
